The Malakand ultramafic complex lies close to the northern margin of the Indo-Pak continental plate in Pakistan. It is mainly composed of harzburgite and designated as harzburgite-subtype. The chromite is restricted to the harzburgite-dunite rock association. The dunite is irregularly shaped, discordant and has a gradational contact with the adjacent orthopyroxene-poor harzburgite. Modal analysis indicates that the rocks have undergone a high degree of partial melting. The chromite found in the Landi Raud area is massive, porphyritic-nodular and disseminated.
