The rocks of the Koga and adjacent areas are the Ambela Granite, Koga syenite and carbonatite which are part of the Ambela Granitic Complex of the Peshawar Plain Alkaline Igneous Province. These rocks cover large area in the Buner District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Ambela Granitic Complex lies on the north western margin of the Indian Plate and consists of a group of acidic plutonic rocks. Twenty two samples from the different lithological units exposed in the investigated area were collected and out of these fifteen samples were analyzed for Rare Earth Elements (REE) contents using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) in Geo-Science Advance Research Laboratory, Geological Survey of Pakistan, Islamabad. The concentration of some Rare Earth Elements such as Gadolinium (Gd) and Terbium (Tb) are quite encouraging and warranting a detailed Geological investigation in the area. The host rock for the Rare Earth Elements (REE) is carbonatite which is considered to be formed from a parent magma derived from a REE enriched mantle source.
